Eliot Stein is a writer and editor who thinks curiosity is a practice, and that the world is always richer than our ideas of it.
He's currently a journalist and editor at the BBC, and has spent years profiling remarkable people around the globe who are preserving a distinct cultural wonder that would otherwise be lost.
Eliot's forthcoming book, Custodians of Wonder, is inspired by a column he created for BBC Travel called Custom Made, and is about the last people alive maintaining some of the world's most astonishing cultural rites.
His work has also appeared in The New York Times, Wired, The Guardian, The Washington Post, National Geographic, The Independent, and The Best Travel Writing book anthology. He has won Writer's Digest, Lowell Thomas, and Solas Awards and regularly speaks about his work at universities, on podcasts, and in print.
Before joining the BBC, Eliot lived in rural Guatemala, Berlin, and Sardinia (where he wrote some guidebooks). He is currently based in Brooklyn and is happiest in a kayak, a treehouse, or a tent.
Eliot is represented by Wendy Levinson. For inquiries about his work and Custodians of Wonder, please send a note to eliothendersonstein [at] gmail [dot] com. For inquiries about the BBC, please contact eliot [dot] stein [at] bbc [dot] com.
